In 2025, Professor Jappe de Best (Avans UAS) introduced the course biobased technology & business development at UFOP (Ouro Preto, Brazil). This was part of his 5-months guest professorship related to the Living Lab Biobased Brazil. In the course, students from UFOP did an assignment for 3 Brazilian companies helping them further develop a biobased product idea looking at technology, sustainability, marketing, and finances.
Also, this year the course will be taught at UFOP starting in September. This time the course will be supervised by Professor Leandro Gurgel and associate professor Liliane Catone Soares from UFOP with support from Jappe de Best. The UFOP students that join the course will now work on assignments from Dutch companies. Part of the course is also an (online) exchange of knowledge and results with students from the semester program Sustainable Switch from Avans UAS.
